About this site
FoodHandlersLicense.com is an independent publisher. We are not a government agency, not a training provider, and we do not issue food handler cards. We exist because the answer to "do I need a food handlers card?" is scattered across fifty state health department websites, dozens of county codes, and a lot of marketing pages with a financial interest in telling you "yes."
What we do
We read the actual statutes, administrative rules, and health department pages for every US state — and for the counties that run their own programs — and translate them into plain English. When a state doesn't require a card, our page says so in the first line. When a county's rules differ from its state's, we document exactly how.
How we verify
Every requirements page lists the official sources behind it and shows the date we last verified them. Our sourcing hierarchy and correction process are documented in our editorial policy. Anything we could not confirm from an official source is either omitted or explicitly hedged with "check with your local health department."
How the site makes money
The site may display advertising and may earn commissions when you purchase a course through some outbound links to training providers. This never affects what we say a state requires: requirements come from the law, and we link official sources so you can check us. Sponsored links are marked in accordance with search engine guidelines.
Update cadence
Requirements pages are re-verified on a rolling schedule, and immediately when a reader reports a change we can confirm against an official source. Spotted something outdated? Contact us.
